#MeToo but Not You...?
Recently, the #MeToo movement covered our Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook feeds and took the media world by storm. Women all over the world posted #MeToo as their status update with or without explanation but confirming that they have been a victim of sexual harassment or sexual assault. I would scroll through all of my social media feeds and see friends and relatives sharing the status update. I could have shared #MeToo as my own post because I have been a survivor (not a victim) of sexual harassment and assault. However, I should be covered in feathers while sipping my tea because I am a chicken who didn't really want to answer the questions from my family.
As the #MeToo movement gained popularity, you could see celebrities, feminists, activists, bloggers, influensters, politicians, etc. sharing their stories and aiding the movement's development. This movement even sparked another movement of actors and actresses speaking out against the harassment and abuse endured on sets and behind closed doors. Directors, such as Harvey Weinstein, and other mostly male actors and celebrities have been charged and shunned due to their acts. However, one particularly famous celebrity and his family were distanced from this movement.
Donald Trump has been slammed by the media for his negative comments regarding women as well as vulgar statements involving sexually assaulting women. However, when this movement gained momentum, very few people confronted allegations about Trump that everyone used during the election a year ago. Trump went on a Tweet spree during the #TakeAKnee movement because taking a knee during the National Anthem was disrespectful and a danger to the American people. I'm sorry but are all Americans middle-aged white men?
During the #MeToo movement, no tweets were posted. Nothing was said. The President of the United States acted as if half of the US population did not matter. The media avoided bringing up Mr. Trump and instead focused more on those being exposed in Hollywood rather than those who had already been exposed. The absence of #MeToo in the White House did not cause the movement to lose ground; however, if the women in the White House and on Capitol Hill decided to speak up and out about this movement, maybe something would be done rather than just half a million retweets.
Based on statistics, Ivanka Trump has experienced sexual assault and/or harassment. Melania Trump has experienced sexual assault and/or harassment. If the President of the United States will not support a cause to help his wife and daughter, what kind of man is he?
*Sips cup of tea as my blood is boiling*
But that's really none of my business.

I love this post! You said it perfectly if he isn't willing to back such an important moment then what can we trust him with. Millions of women and men said that this has effected them and the president did nothing. My blood is boiling to, and to be comply honest these predators getting to look at the man in office (also accused time and time again of sexual assault) hasn't helped the issue! Great post
ReplyDeleteTHE TEA IS HOT! "The absence of #MeToo in the White House did not cause the movement to lose ground;" There will forever be an absence of this in the WH. They don't want to own up to the fact that the PRESIDENT has made it okay for other men to think they can get away with it... but that's also called "privilege" so... many Americans may feel this way.
